Friday - Sunday, August 22 - 24 – “Apostle Islands Catamaran Rally”
Location: Buffalo Bay Campground, 3 miles north of Bayfield WI.
Several of us have gone up to Lake Superior the past few years and have had a wonderful sailing experience among the Apostle Islands.
Get there mid-day Friday for an afternoon sail, full day on the water on Saturday, half day on Sunday.
Format would be to select a series of islands to visit each day and rally from one to the next.
If you haven’t sailed on “bigger” water this is event you need to try…clean air, long tacks and beautiful islands offering plenty of destinations.
Buffalo Bay Campground has a nice sandy beach and camping right next to the beach.
This should be considered an open water event…preparation is important given the distances to be traveled. Lake Superior water is cold (mid-50’s in late Aug), but proper preparation makes this the best sailing of the season. Wetsuits / Drysuits essential. Marine Radio/GPS highly suggested.
